Scope and Content

The collection contains a number of histories of the cemetery; several copies of the printed charter and by-laws, 1845 and 1876; petitions and other legal documents; a copy of a deed for land purchased from the Henry Herr farm in 1845 (original in Deed Collection - MG 835); miscellaneous letters concerning various matters of the cemetery; diagram maps of the cemetery; tombstone records; lists of the removal from other cemeteries to the Harrisburg cemetery; the text of a video presentation, 1988; information on the Revolutionary soldiers buried in the cemetery; programs of DAR presentations, 1941, 1947, 1948; listing of the veterans of wars, other than the Revolution; prominent citizens buried in cemetery; history of governors of Pennsylvania in cemetery; lists of judges, fire chiefs, and other interesting persons buried there; the Durang marker; newspaper clippings about historical tours; state laws concerning cemeteries; list of DAR markers; information concerning other cemeteries: Baldwin Cemetery in Steelton, Coxestown Cemetery, Indiantown Gap National Cemetery; a booklet about famous men buried there, 1938; materials on the 150th anniversary celebration, 1995; the walking tour, 1995; and miscellaneous materials about cemeteries.

Also contains a deed between John Seale and his wife Harriet and the Harrisburg Cemetery Association for a tract of land in Susquehanna Township, 1850.
